UC Recruiting Class Gets Major Boost

ALEXSMITH9_5150 Recruit According to Rivals.com TE Alex Smith from Lakota West of Cincinnati has verbally committed to play football in 2010 for the University of Cincinnati. The 6′5″ 230lb TE ranks as the 9th best tight end among high school juniors and will finish his prep career next Fall highlighting what hopes to be a productive recruiting year for the Bearcats.

The Big East Champs played in their first BCS bowl game last month when they took on Virginia Tech  in the FedEx Orange Bowl. While much of last season’s success can be attributed to the quality of players in the program, some insiders also point to the Head Coach.  Brian Kelly enters his third year at the helm of the UC program boasting a 22-6 record and after ledding the Bearcats to their first BIG EAST Conference Championship in 2008, Kelly and the Bearcats hope to build on the momentum that has been building the last two seasons.

With commitments like Smith, LB Preston Brown of Cincinnati Northwest, LB Solomon Tentman of Cincinnati Roger Bacon,  and offensive tackle Kevin Schloemer of West Chester Lakota West, the Bearcats could easily find themselves  as BCS post-season regulars.
